Professor Zoltan Takats is an Analytical Chemistry Professor at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. He specializes in the use of mass spectrometry for clinical diagnostics, focusing on the identification and analysis of tissue chemical composition for disease diagnosis. Takats has developed the iKnife, a surgical tool that integrates mass spectrometry to enable real-time tissue analysis during surgery. He is a pioneer in the field of 'Ambient Mass Spectrometry' and the primary inventor of six mass spectrometric ionization techniques. With 78 peer-reviewed publications to his name, he has received accolades such as the Mattauch-Herzog Award from the German Mass Spectrometry Society and the Hungarian Star Award for Outstanding Innovators.
